Reflections on Devotions

The following quotes from a Daily Word (a Unity Publication) generated these thoughts by the devotion.

I reflect on the gift of God’s presence in my life”

“Time spent in reflection is like a mini vacation from the busyness of my day. I take respite from my daily activities to consider some of the ways God expresses in my life.”

  • The splendor of dawn when I sit in quiet reflection watching the amazing spread of light as the sun peaks over the horizon.
  • The joy of winter birds coming to the feeders and searching the wood stacked on the deck for stray sunflower seeds.  The joyful energetic Pilates class where everyone tries their best to perform the exercises for the strength in their bodies.
  • The obvious of having enough. Enough to eat, enough shelter, warmth, clothes. Enough people in my life.
  • God expresses through my pets – their continuous dependence on us for food and shelter and their playful enthusiastic ways.
  • The health I feel in my daily walk.
  • The joy of writing when I pick up my pen and paper.
  • The continuous love of my husband.

“I remember how supported I have felt on my life’s journey so far.”

  • The times I was in constant prayer while working as a neurosurgery nurse at Fairfax Hospital. I remember praying before, during and after my shift. I prayed could I be God’s servant and do His service. And I did. I felt closest to Him then, when I was dealing with people in crises. I felt the most supported when I was supporting others.

“I ponder how best to share the love that I am and reflect on what I might do to make a difference in another’s life.”

  • Now that my life is not dealing with other people in crises, and my own life has settled down I think the best I can do is with my pen and paper. It is in writing that I can make a difference.

“I sit with questions that arise and allow the answers to unfold on their own.”

  • I am not a patient person and I want the answers now. I ask what and how I can write my best to express the Love that God is.

“As I think about my day, I wonder what will matter to me a year from now”

  • Is it my blog or my private writing? Is it my journal? Is it my creative nonfiction, my Children’s books?
  • I know one thing for sure it is my love for my husband.

“I recall what I am most grateful for. Enjoying quiet time in reflection helps me remember and appreciate the many ways God shows up in my life.”

“On the glorious splendor of your majesty and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.” —

{Psalm 145:5}–

Reflection is an excellent way to put everything in perspective. It is then that we realize how blessed we are.

P.S. I am not a patient person either and have difficulty waiting for answers (and sometimes following directions.) I also wonder what is in store for my future, but I’m slowly realizing that I can wonder all I want, but I’ll just have to (patiently) wait and see 🙂

It’ll be interesting to refer back to these musings, perhaps throughout the year, and see how they clarify or fall off the edge,

Yes, thank you Widder, I’ll make a date to do that. I usually reflect first thing in the morning as I watch the sun come up over our view out the window, but I don’t have shoulds in it. However this will be a pleasant task.

  5. Hi!
I love The Daily Word. My family has gotten through a lot with that little book. We also continue to call Silent Unity usually the first of the month. If they pray for 30 days…I don’t want to run out:) Your gratitude list says a lot about you.

      Hi Tess,
Never thought to call Silent Unity every thirty days but I do call them with extraordinary needs and worries.
Thanks for the good words. Love hearing from you.
