Hi Friends! 

Another week has flown by. And now we are eating chocolate ice cream trying to stay cool in hot spring weather. Recently I made my lunch from an ice cream sundae with nuts and hot fudge and whipped cream. *Yum!* 🙂 Now I find myself looking at other picture books than during the winter. More travel oriented. I would love to vacation in Italy and the picture book I chose for today was filled with fun facts about It that made me wish I had one planned for Italy.

Also alternately a discussion leader can ask what the students already know about Italy and expand the others knowledge about it by just talking about it Pull out a map and show where it is in relation to other countries and discuss climate and possible exports and imports. Ask about what one knows about olive oil.

Why I Love it: This is not just an alphabet book. It is a geography, history, and famous person biographies book. Yes, the alphabet is the emphasis as it describes Italy in broad detail but the sidebar gives the finer details with the fun facts. It makes the book especially interesting to a broader age range. There is also a foreword or introduction by Mario M. Cuomo. Did you know he has written nine books including other picture books? I am going to be looking these up.

I think you’ll love this book as much as I did and it just brings us to summer. It might be the subject having to do with warmer climate but it definitely made me ready for vacation.
