Marketing My Butt OFF!

Hi Friends,

Everything I’ve been reading tells me I should be including bolded headlines in my blog post as well as  SEO. Today I got as far as  headlines and I’ll save the SEO for another time. Tell me how you like it in the comments okay?

Taking time off from writing to market:

Even though I’ve been spending time revising my memoir, “Spiraling, My Battle With Bipolar Disorder”, I have also been marketing my two picture books, Annie’s Special Day and Edmund PIckle Chin a Donkey Rescue Story. Two Saturday’s ago I spent time telling the story of Cinderella to sweet little princesses sitting next to my table with my books displayed. Some parents took the  hint and bought one.

School Visits as part of the marketing plan

This week I had the wonderful opportunity for an author’s visit at Primrose School. I gave a talk on “Annie’s Special Day” and telling time, bringing out my clocks and poster I gave it for two Pre K classes and one  KIndergarten class.

It’s amazing how much more mature the kindergarten class was. they were able to follow the text if I read it while I had only told the story to the Pre K. In Pre K the children came up to me for hugs and were excited to tell me each of their names There was no such excitement shown in the Kindergarten class. (granted it was my third of the morning in two hours and my back was hurting)

But some of the parents had gotten autographed copies of “Annie’s Special Day,” for their children so I sold some books that way.

Belong to writer’s groups

And March 28, although I’m attending a mini conference by PennWriters, Fashioning your Story. I’ll be part of many other authors selling their books after the conference. A big multi book signing. There is still time to register if you’d like to go. It is very easy. Just go to the site and fill out the registration form. Or pay by  PayPal and it does the rest.

Include Local Bookstores in your plan

I do hope to remember my camera then, I forgot it for my authors visit and felt very sorry. And of course there are the book stores to put your books up for consignment. I visited Books and Other Found Things,  and sold a few books there in the past. I hope to visit Second Chapter Books in Middleburg to do the same You can find both these stores in Facebook.

Have an Author’s Platform

And let’s not forget my online presence.  There is my Clara Bowman-Jahn, Author, page     and the Edmund Pickle Chin  Page  . I’m trying to post something there every day. It’s hard to know what kind of impact these sites have on selling books. But they are all part of an author’s platform. See you there!

Include a Blog in Your Author’s Platform

And have a Great week and I’ll see you back here on Friday when I do a picture book review for Susanna Leonard HIll’s site of Perfect Picture Book Friday, where all the books get categorized according to themes or alphabetized. It is a great site for parents, teachers and librarians to look up their particular book with resources for further study or activity to go along with their book.

Or just to browse.

See back here on Friday!

XOXO

Thanks, Sandra! I Hope I can make it a habit about using headers.

  3. I am so so so proud of you, Clar! WOW! It is a lot of work…but it sounds like you have a very good handle on it all and are taking things step by step. I am going to follow your advice. I have done NO marketing for my parenting book, this year yet or last year at all…I think the move took a lot out of me and last year I was always involved in writing classes. You are an inspiration. 😉

      Thanks, Vivian!

Yes, it is hard work but totally worth it. I can understand why you d idn’t do any marketing last year with the move and all the classes you took. Your energy just went in other directions.

I put your book in our library and talked the librarian about it. Maybe I will ask her about it again and see where it is on the shelf and take it out. My ESOL student could benefit from reading it. Both for finding picture books for her four year old and for doing those raise-her-self-esteem crafts.

Have you thought of getting some bookmarks we in your circle could share with people? Like it would be nice to have a bookmark explaining your book when I talk to the librarian again. Actually I think I Did have one or two once but could use a few again. It is a good opener. 🙂

  5. Hi Clar,
I recently read that titles should be capitalized for better Google recognition. There are so many do’s and don’t’s out there. It gets overwhelming at times. So glad you promoting your two wonderful books (which I love). And I’m certain the kiddies at Primrose School loved you and your books. Glad you were able to sell them as well! Have fun at your conference and thanks for the additional marketing tips. 🙂
    Blessings,
    Tracy

      Hi Janna!

It’s crazy isn’t it? Th is whole other world separate from writing? I wish I could afford a publisticist who would then go out and market for me. YOU know, what publishers used to do?

Thanks so much for coming by and visiting me. I Just love seeing you here. 🙂
