Question: Do You Like Reading or Writing Better?

Hi Friends!

Welcome back! I am glad to see you after the summer from hell which I had. You are a sight for sore eyes. But first, before I explain that,

I came across a post recently here,

“Adventures in Children’s Publishing” asks what do I like more. Reading or writing?

Like the author of that post I have found it hard to answer. And after thinking about it I found it harder to like reading as much since I became a writer because of analyzing what I read. While reading I ask things like “does it grab me”? Are the characters realistic with flaws? Do they seem real? Or like talking heads? What about the dialogue?

And the author of the post asks; if I like the book, why? If I don’t like the book, why? It takes me a long time to lose myself in a book because of that.

But writing? I lose myself easily. I especially lose myself in the rough first draft. I start a picture book or piece of memoir and POW! I am gone. Lost in my writing.

I wrote the above last June thinking I’d have a head start writing the first post of fall after blog break. I thought that would do it. How ever, I Feel compelled to share some of my summer with you. Some of you know I’ve been writing my memoir. We had a death in the family first thing in June and have been dealing with repercussions all summer. Even this Friday spending all day in a foreign county courthouse dealing with probate. And I mean ALL day. From seven AM when we woke up to finally coming home at four thirty exhausted and burned out. Then running to the bank first thing Saturday morning and standing in a line ten patrons long. So now you know why you are sight for sore eyes. It is wonderful to write for you. 

I must confess I haven’t done much writing this summer.

But I eagerly turn away from this hell summer and turn towards fall. Look towards September for writing more. I promised my sister I would not even take classes. I told her I would take the break I sorely needed and didn’t get this summer. That promise didn’t take long though, to break. I’m taking Katie Davis’s course Crank it UP starting in Sept 17. Here is what she said:

And in honor of trying to keep a short first post, I’ll stop it here. Except of course my gifts for my friends.
