It’s great to see you again! It makes for a pleasurable Friday and of course we know Saturday which is next is my favorite day. I sleep late, schedule my blogs and catch up   on reading. I even go for long walks with husb, Ed Jahn. You may be surprised some day to find a guest post of his here. Now for the reason of this post, my own selection for Perfect Picture Book Friday.

Title: Please Louise

Author: Toni Morrison and Slade Morrison

Illustrator: Shadra Strickland

Publishing info: A Paula Wiseman book: Simon and Schuster, fiction, 2014

Summary: “On a gray, rainy day, everything seems particularly frightening and bad to Louise until she enters a library and finds books that help her to know and imagine the beauty and wonder that have been there all along.”

Theme: Books and reading, fear, Libraries

Resources : I couldn’t find much by way of teacher resources for this book but as I thought about it, huge interesting discussions could be had about what ones favorite book was. What a library card was and could do if there were no books in the home etc.  So let you imagination go and think about your love for books and come up with a question you could ask your group of students.

Age appropriate for: Grade kindergarten through fourth grade

First Three Sentences: “Please, Louise, please, please. Things are not always what they seem.  If you are sometimes lonely or sometimes sad, know that the world is big but not so bad.”

From the Jacket: “A rainy day may seem gray, but if you take a walk outside, you just may find your way to a special place filled with stories that will please. Just ask Louise.”

Why I love it: “Please Louise” is an instant hit with me because I feeling just like Louise when I opened the book. And the promise of a better tomorrow and a better mood just by reading came true for me. The book pleased me and turned my mood around. I began reading something else and soon became a person someone else may want to be around. The message in this book is spectacular and this Toni Morrison book does her justice.

Do you think you will like reading this book?

I envy people who just order books from their computers from their libraries. I must learn how to do this! Thanks, Rosi. I hope you like it as much as I did. 🙂

  3. Like the idea about a little girl seeking a library on a rainy day to escape and find adventure through books. Clever idea for a book. Love to curl up with books on rainy days.

I know what you mean. She won my heart when she discovers adventure through books on a day she was grumpy. I often do the same! Thanks, Patricia. 🙂

My List is getting long, too, Wendy! But it is one of the fun things I like about Saturdays or Sundays and going to the library to see how many of the books on my list I can find. sometimes I go on Goodreads and find it. I envy Rosi that she can look for and order a book from her library by computer! I want to learn how to do that. 🙂

  9. I’m longing for a gray rainy day! I’ve had this on my wish list for awhile. The Ms Morrisons are a good combination. A 2nd grade class that I visit just recently went on a field trip to the public library. They all got library cards! It was a great day! So much fun to show them around my library!
