I came across this comment in my computer. I obviously meant to start something with it. Please forgive the typos. They are ferocious. (If this information is redundant please forgive me. I Just have a lot to say about it.) 🙂 Have a piece of cake, please and read on.
“I haven’t come up with that problem but have to get going on a big project that I’ve neglected for some time. Not sure what to do about it. I miss it.
I thought I would be marketing my new children’s book but the delays keep coming and I am not going to wait any longer. Just decided to heck with it. I’ll restart the project any way. Now for a major shift in thinking about my WIP. Not the children’s book but the main big book, my memoir. I think I’ll write about it in a post because this is turning out to be too long. Thanks for letting spout off about it. 🙂 ”
Yep, I definitely want to go back to my memoir. I think I’ll finish up my latest Picture Book and start. It means reading my journals and finding the nuggets to copy and embellish. I really did enjoy doing that. I’ll just re start the memoir. Marketing will happen.
That is what I wrote a long time ago. I have been re reading my journals and writing down nuggets and have even taken a scene course. Now it‘s now or never. I’ve been planning to go back to a schedule in January and its here. I have signed a contract with two teachers to write my memoir in six months so here goes nothing. My schedule says writing comes first every morning so no one will see me until it’s done. I’ve got a specific number of words to make for a goal each day. A ten thousand word count every month and by June will have a book length project done, 60,000 words done!
So my posts won’t be long and I won’t show up from time to time. Did you see last week’s Perfect Picture Book Friday? PPBF/ Modern Olympic Games? Nothing but the facts, Mam. Thank you Mam.
Hope you’ll understand. I’ve disappointed myself before so this time I’m determined and I even have help. Here is where I was last January. I posted my goals online as well and I can learn from them and the class I took then.
So for those of you that are new and haven’t been following me then I’ll just say this isn’t the first time I’ve made goals to write my memoir. 🙂
But I’ve got a word this time. Transformational! And if I could take a second one it would be Brave. It’s taking courage to relive and write the painful parts. I keep stopping for them. So I’ll leave it at that.

A lot of times I read but don’t comment Clar. (Homeschool) I say I’ll go and comment (when it comes into my inbox) on this after school. But then I forget. I owe you an email too. (I hurt my foot.) I thought it was broken, but Urgent Care said it was soft tissue damage. You can do this! I KNOW it!

Hi Clar. Wow, go you on the memoir. You can do it! I hope one-day to write my own. It is a big job and one needs to take a lot of time out to do it. I often read peoples blogs that come into my inbox and make an effort to comment. There has been a lot of times where I have managed to read it but in my hurry, forget to comment. Sometimes I’m just plain forgetful. 😉 All the best for your memoir.

I”m the same way about reading a blog and commenting. Often I read it and sometimes don’t comment on it. It is too sad for the blogger. 😦

Clar, sometimes you have to drop all the extraneous stuff and concentrate on what is of most emotional importance to you. This sounds like your time to do that. And remember, mate, I am here if you need support, suggestions, or a kick in the pants!! I might need help with grammar and punctuation on occasion (ask my editor!! ), but I am terrific at powerful content, pace, tight writing, and hooking reader interest. So, give me a call if you need me. My ‘Down Under Calling’ is full of my memories.

Perhaps if you don’ t mind I may ask you to be a beta reader for me on my memoir. In a year or so. Now I”m just doing the rough rough draft. Even though I have a teacher, they don’t read everything and I may ask more from you if that is OK?

Haven’t seen much market for memoirs except of really extra special celebrity of some sort. But some very regular folks have been successful because the story is so powerful and full of drama and emotion, even become movies so good luck to you.
But children’s books, hard to break into but if establish some small prominence, possibilities endless. I would submit samples to elected school board officials in local counties as a start. I taught for 33 years and this is how many texts got on local, state and national recommended reading lists. Free samples to city commissioners of cities that have libraries might help market too. Free samples to day centers may become another promising market development. These seem to have potential but even more so if you have a series of books ready to offer as only one book is given to individual to stimulate an interest in the rest of one’s stuff.
I am no expert but have studied publishing trends. Print media has really taken a hit. ebooks taken over. I am no genius as I self published first of 4 one hundred cartoon books last December and sold 7 books. But have not started any real marketing attempt except as a widget ad on my blog. With 1,100 followers I thought more than 7 books would be sold, however.
One thing for sure. I’ll stick to my cartoons. If my memoirs came out the white coats would be there immediately to take me to the crazy farm.

The marketing suggestion is good. I do give my picture book away to elementary school libraries and gave a series of talks last year. This year I am talking to a bunch of classes of kinder garden and first graders in April.
I”m not worried about the white coats with my memoir because I have been there done that already and now live to tell about it. 🙂
