Another Perfect Picture Book Friday is here. And rather than starting off with my gifts I am starting off with the main event. This book is sure to please.

Why I love it: “All Through My Town” reminds me of one of my boy’s favorite books by Richard Scarry. This book is all about MY town and YOUR town. The simple rhythm is suited to the age group and it makes a great read aloud. The illustrations are beautiful, too. Big and bold with lots of detail they are THE fun addition to this book, making it lots of fun and brows able. But truly, I loved Richard Scarry more.

What a fun book to entice little ones to read. The bold illustrations make it a winner in the eyes of the young, I’m sure!

Yes, I think you are right, Jarm. Those illustrations make the book memorable. And there are so many things hidden in them it is fun to look and look. 🙂

You are absolutely right, Julie! Without the illustrations the text would lie flat. I wonder if the author gave illo notes to the text when she submitted to her publisher or if the illustrator just added what she thought best. 🙂

I meant that there are lots of little stories that one can find in the illos too. But that would be interesting to knowabout any direction from the author.

I loved Jean’s earlier book, Light Up the Night, but haven’t read this one yet. It is hard to be compared to Richard Scarry!

It looks like I will have to look up Jean’s first book “Light Up the Night” so I can compare.
When I compared this to Richard Scarry I did not mean it in a bad way. Just more inclusive. 🙂

I really like the idea behind this book. Neighborhoods and towns aren’t like they used to be when we grew up, where every one knew each other. It is nice to know that there are still some sense of community out there with the busy lives people and kids live. Love the cover!

Yes,, I agree, Patricia. I like the way she still finds some sense of community in neighborhoods. I like the title of My Town, instead of The Town. 🙂

This looks pretty cute. I like Mr Timmers’s work. He does some funny stuff. Richard Scarry is an all time favorite around our house! It would be hard to beat his Best Word Book Ever.
