January Is Still Here!

Hi Friends!

Owl as found in flora on flickr3fc3c4_o1

Welcome back to my blog. Are you fortified with coffee and chocolate pie? Are you as awake as that owl? lol. I had a piece of Pumpkin pie myself this morning. *Yum.*

So happy to be here again. It isn’t too late to talk about goals is it? I have so much to tell you!

First I want to say I joined 12×12, the kid lit community of Julie Hedlund’s organization. So far it’s been fun. I just hope I can meet the challenges! One. I write a book a month. Then revise it. Then submit it. First I just had the Margaret Wise Bronze membership but quickly realized that I wanted to be able to have feedback on my manuscripts so I upped my membership to Golden Book where that can happen,… AND send out for submissions. I’m so excited! And with this I won’t have to wait with the revisions. So I think this will be perfect for me. Write, revise, get critiques and send out for submissions! 🙂  . There’s still time to join if you want. Here’s the link. : http://www.juliehedlund.com/registration-for-2013/

So now you know my goals. To write and revise a picture book each month, and after critiques send out queries and submit.

Here are the rest:

To complete my online class of “Writing your Life Story” twice a week for six weeks and do the homework. This is my memoir love…this is where I’m meeting my goal of making my private journal public as I say in my about page. (I’ve only had two classes so far and the time they take is enormous. I am worried about how to fit it all in.) 🙂

To continue with my Pilates classes twice a week and hopefully join in another exercise class of Thai Chi on Mondays.

To keep blogging on Tuesday and Fridays introducing an author on the first of the month, to have a progress report the third Tuesday of the month and to have an eclectic post the fourth Tuesday of the month with each Friday being part of PPBF. http://susannahill.blogspot.com/p/perfect-picture-books.html

What do you think? Think I can do it? I’m still also going to my SCBWI crit group once a month and Round Hill Writer’s group twice a month along with all the things that keeps a home going and husband happy. Please let me know in the comments what your goals are and if you’ll keep me accountable to mine.

OH one other goal I have is to take Susanna’s picture book course on “Making Picture Book Magic” in March. Here’s the link if you’re interested: http://susannahill.blogspot.com/p/making-picture-book-magic.html I welcome all comers. We’ll have a blast!

  4. Those are detailed and terrific goals! You’re one busy gal. As I mentioned in my blog, I’m not going to talk about resolutions or goals this year, but I am keeping a journal in which I write down weekly writing goals. It’s been working out great for me. 🙂

    Happy 12×12’ing!

You have a very doable list! And I think you’ll find that as you work on one, the others will fall into place more easily. Way to go! And since they parallel my personal goals, I’m seeing yours as encouragement for me. Thank you! Have a wonderful year, and welcome to 12×12!

And if you missed it, I have some new year’s wishes for you…

  10. Sounds ambitious. Where do you look for a class on writing memoirs?

This was in my community college. And they offered it online. There are more than twenty students in it. I can send you the link if you’re interested. Let me know. You don’t have to be a resident of this county or anything. There’s one person who is from Hawaii in it. 🙂

Clar, you are a bundle of amazing talents and energy. If anyone can do it YOU CAN!! My goals are to get the last three of my books published, and then have the time and strength to keep promoting those already published. Books that sit, unheralded, continue to sit, unnoticed! It may seem egoistic. . . but I want kids to read and love my books!

No. wanting kids to read and love your books isn’t egotistical. ISn’t that why we write our books? for the kids?

OF course you want them read and enjoyed. While I write, revise and submit I’m going to be marketing “Annie’s Special Day” as well. Maybe I should have made that clearer.

Yesterday I visited a school librarian to finalize a visit there. All that’s still needed is to sign the contract for the visit. *YaY* 🙂

Awesome list of goals, Clar…2013 is going to be a stellar year for all of us…glad you decided to ‘go for the gold’ with Julie’s 12×12…I think the ability to submit every month is worth the cost…and, judging from the 12x12FB page and the forum comments, there is so much sharing going on…eliminating much of the hunting for info we usually have to do. Best of luck with Susanna’s picture book writing class…I would love to take it…but I’m doing Emma’s Just Write for Kids that I won.:) I, too, wonder if I have bitten off more than I can chew…but it very delicious at this point.:)
And than you so much for linking my post to yours…see you in the 12×12 Forum.:)

“Bitten off more than I can chew”> Love that I have company, Vivian. Yesterday I worked on my memoir homework and visited a school for an author visit. Then went to my writer group.

I didn’t get to 12×12 at all. I don’t know how to fit it all in. How are you doing it? Do you have a schedule? I am going to download a half hour calendar to help me. And I guess I’ll be seeing less of my friends for awhile. 🙂
