Susanna’s Birthday Contest/ Surprise!

Hi Readers! I hope you are enjoying the wonderful spring weather and hope your weather is as nice as mine. But before you go away I want to share this with you. So grab your cool iced mocha and stay. 

This post is for  Susanna Leonard Hill’s birthday story blog hop contest of 300 words or less. Susanna said that the participants write a children’s story about a creative and /or unique birthday celebration in either prose or poetry. The entry was to be posted on their blog between Saturday, May 19, 2012, and Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

I took the creative part to mean that the child was creative and wrote it as such. I chose to write it in prose. Because the contest has started on one of the days I don’t usually post, I hope you will enjoy the interruption .

Surprise!

Tina loved to play by herself. No brother to tell her she was too slow. No big sister to tell her to go away, and no mother to tell her to clean up her room. Tina loved going to a mossy shady area in the woods with rocks which she imagined was her house. She pretended she was adopted and that she was specially chosen by her mother and father because she was so pretty and that they loved her so much.

One day she was playing this game at her favorite tree when she heard one of her brothers calling her name. Not wanting him to find out where she went she quickly turned towards him and shouted, “What do you want?”

He said, “Mom wants you.”

Tina did not want to go. She turned around slowly and crept  back to the house. When she came into the living room, expecting mother to give her some work, all her brothers and sisters jumped up from behind sofas, chairs and tables and shouted “Happy! Happy Birthday, Tina! Happy birthday to you!

Her mother sweetly folded Tina into her arms and gently said “We love you so much, you do know that don’t you? We maybe don’t tell you often enough.” Mother kissed her hair and cheek and said “Come have some cake and ice cream.”

Tina was so surprised that they remembered her birthday. She had forgotten about it and she felt guilty for about two seconds. Father came over and gave her a hug.  And then Tina started to enjoy her party, laughed and clapped her hands when the family sang her birthday song again. Tina really felt her family loved her. The adoption game was forgotten.
