There are two great author sites I visit; LinkedIn and www.writerschatroom.com.
LinkedIn is proving to be a valuable resource about authors for me. I am finding illustrators for my picture book “Annie’s Special Day”. I can private message them and get responses the very next day. I am emailing two now about the prospect of illustrating it. I am sure I will find one this way. There is a site I found through LinkedIn called Doodld.net that is specific to illustrators and I can look at their work right through the site, go to their profile and leave comments. I have done this for two and I hope to hear from them. Another way I have been searching is through a discussion group called Children’s’ Books. I have left a message on there and two illustrators have contacted me. So I am on my way again since yesterday I heard from my illustrator of four weeks that he would rather write a book than illustrate one. So now I have to start from square one again.
I find LinkedIn valuable for other reasons, too. There are great discussions about marketing; from how to get on a cable TV show to how to get on the news media. That is my most popular discussion so far and I wish I had a completed PB to market although I am learning all kinds of good info for later. Another fun discussion started by Saul Weber, the same author, is about blogs. He started a discussion called “Got a blog/site, post it here.” There are so many blogs I haven’t stopped to count. Last time I checked there were 170 entries. And they are all author sites so you know it’s by people who like to read. The wonder of it is that they are all PB authors because Saul wrote a PB and he is trying to market it. The discussion is like an author platform campaign because all the blogs are by published authors marketing their books.
My other favorite site that I have been visiting and enjoying is www.writerschatroom.com. Every Wednesday there’s a discussion relevant to writers and on Sunday there’s an interview with a published author. Wednesdays are very informative and Sundays are pure fun. The chats start at eight on Wednesdays and seven on Sundays.
I hope you visit these fun author sites and see for yourself how valuable they are. You can friend me on Linked In as Clarike Bowman-Jahn. I would love to hear from you. Also if you have been enjoying my posts, I invite you to subscribe using the button on the left sidebar to get each post delivered into your email box. I post on Saturdays and Sundays usually about my second career as a writer.
As I say in this blog post, I have joined the writer’s campaign platform for supporting my fellow writers. I have met several wonderful writers this way and hope to meet many more.

Glad you stopped by, Jane. Happy to meet you. I have an embarrassing question to ask. What is a google reader? I have an idea but think I am wrong. Please explain it to me. Have you started your memoir?

Your welcome, Kathy. I know what you mean about limiting media distractions. Seems like it’s all too easy to spend all one’s time on the internet. 🙂

I’m glad you came ’round. Hope your carpal tunnel tunnel doesn’t keep you from writing. Read some of your works on everyday fiction. Liked what you wrote. Love your imagination. Write on! Short stories rock and flash fiction is where it’s at. 🙂
