A rare, white non-albino, male buffalo calf born near Greenville, Texas and considered sacred by Native Americans had his naming ceremony on June 29th 2011
He was named Lightning Medicine Cloud at a ceremony where there was gourd dancing, traditional drum ceremonies and Native American arts and crafts vendors.
Arby Little Soldier, great-great-great-grandson of Sitting Bull, said that the birth of a white buffalo fills a prophecy that has lived in the hearts of many Native Americans for centuriesThe white buffalo has long been sacred to the Lakota as well as other Plains Tribes, such as the Apache and Cheyenne
They believe that man’s survival as a people depends on listening to his message, which urges man to live with the understanding that all living beings are linked and inter dependent.
It is a chance for all people to think together on the peaceful, healthy, harmonious world that the buffalo is urging us to create.
The birth of a white male calf is a highly significant spiritual occurrence. It has happened three times in our baby boomer generation.

Having Lightening Buffalo Cloud born and named is like the promise of the nativity. If we can just leave our need for status , power and control, leave our images of who we perceive to be behind, we have a hope for a better world. Lightening B. C. is a icon of a most spiritual presence. I want to compare it to the crucifix. I am Anglo, and the birth and naming of this baby brought me hope and tears of rejoicing. Lightening Buffalo Cloud has the promise of peace and unity on our earth, in our time. Man’s free will can choose the direction. It is such a shame that there are so many of us choosing!

I love what you said about an icon of the most spiritual presence. How ever I see it as more embracing than the crucifix. The crucifix limits it and I see it as embracing all mankind even those who don’t believe in the crucifix. But I see that you are just expressing your opinion as am I .That’s fantastic that you see so much in it. And feel so powerfully as you do about it.
