New site : http://www.Clara Bowman-Jahn.com/

So sorry my friends to have confused you! I have received some comments saying my old post with just http://www.clarabowmanjahn was not going to my website. My website of http://www.clarabowman-jahn.com/ but instead it went to my wordpress blogging site, clarbojahn’s blog. Apparently the hyphen must be in there. I do not add new posts here but only on my web site now.

I sure do appreciate you sticking with me! Through thick and thin. And I do so want to welcome my new friends.

Come to see me at http://www.Clarabowman-Jahn.com/ ! I can’t wait to see you.

XOXO.                                                                                                                                                             Clara

New website: Http://www.clarabowmanjahn.com/

Hi, Friends!

From my Amazon author page, I see there is no way to go to my new website. I hope this works, by putting it in the title. It is hard enough to get to my Amazon author page, no one needs to work to find my website, too.

My publisher gave me back the rights to “Annie’s Special Day” so now there is no way to buy the book except through me. I can then autograph it as well. Sometime in the future, I might self-publish it but if there is no call for it, I will most likely let it slip into obscurity.

My memoir is next and I am not sure if my picture book audience is wanting to read that. It is called “Spiraling: My Battle With Bipolar.” It is totally different than my picture books.

Sign up on the right or on the mailing list as you travel from the site to get more info on it as it develops. Also, you will get notified of any more blogs I write.

Take care sweet followers

XOXO

Clara

Hello all Friends!

I have started blogging over at my web site now. http://www.clarabowman-jahn.com/ . I thought it would be better to have my own web site with my whole name belonging to me. WordPress has been very good to me but I felt a needed change coming. Especially with doing more on my memoir as I was.

This does not mean I will not be doing any picture book posts but it does mean I have to start from scratch getting subscribers. I had hoped we would be able to import my followers but no such luck.

Stacy Sternberg Jensen, web designer, has been active in this venture the whole summer! Bless her! She has held my hand every time I think Mail Chimp is not working. If you would like to follow me there and get a free story just subscribe via Mail Chimp and voilà, you will be a follower of my new blog over on my site of http://www.clarabowmanjahn/

See you there!

XOXO

Where’s My Sock? #PPBF

Hi Friends! Happy Friday! Today is special and I have a special treat. See why.

Where's My Sock book cover_Title : Where’s My Sock?

Author / Illustrator :  Joyce Dunbar/ Sanja Rescek

Publishing info : Scholastic Books, 2006, fiction

Ages : Grades PreK – 3

Resources : Have your child count the socks on the fold out. With your pre K students go over the colors on the socks hanging on the line on the fold out. Ask if they ever lost a sock and lead a discussion in this area.

Themes : Relationships, Educational, Feelings, Humor

First Three Sentences : Pippin was mad. Pippin was really mad. Pippin was as mad as can be!

Summary From Amazon : “ Pippin is as mad as can be. “I can’t find my other sock!” he exclaims. “My yellow sock with clocks, just like the one I am wearing!” Where do those maddening missing socks go? Pippin is determined to find out. Together with his friend Tog, he embarks on the greatest sock search ever.

Laundry baskets! Wastebaskets! Fruit baskets? No drawer is left unturned. From a mountaintop of socks, through a maze of mismatched knits, to a gatefold clothesline showcasing cheerful argyles, stripes, and dots, WHERE’S MY SOCK? bursts with colorful footwear for kids to look for, count, and pair. “

Why I love it : I picked this book out after seeing Debbie Ridpath Ohi ‘s Where are my Books? I put it on hold at my local library and found it the best of the week. Because that is what I do. I read what I hope to write. “Where’s My Sock?” turned out to be surprising! One of the main characters is a sock with clocks! And you know clocks are one of my favorite things.  Just look at what I have on Pinterest!! And we all know my book “Annie’s Special Day” is all about time and clocks. this book is charming and has a sweet twist at the end, just like my book. So there is a lot to love.

Books Now and For Summer

Hi Friends!! So happy to see you!

Book Cover for Cut From Strong Cloth

Book Cover for Cut From Strong Cloth

Summer is coming and lazy days reading while drinking lemonade by the pool. Or beach. Or like me, at home on the deck. So like Chuck Wenig , asked, “Watcha Reading?”

I Just finished Linda Sittig’sCut From Strong Cloth   and for my book club which I hosted I read and selected, Bryan Johnson’s “Just Mercy.” “Just Mercy” is a memoir about how a lawyer, Bryan Johnson, who has been defined both as a modern day Atticus Finch and as America’s Nelson Mandela; “who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need, and women and children trapped” in our criminal justice system.

This book tells you about the cases he worked on and not all people can stomach reading it from start to finish. It is so raw and personal. Unforgettable. I was inspired to give away four of my own picture books  to a prison ministry where incarcerated mothers and grandmothers read picture books and their children get a tape of them reading along with the book. I am looking into doing more, too.  For, Just Mercy is just so inspiring.

So now I want to know two things.

1: Watcha reading now and

2: Watcha going to read this summer?

I’m going to read more books by my friends from Pennwriters.

Susan Meier’s book, Her Summer With the Marine

  1. J. Lyon’s, Hard Fall and Nerves of Steel
Annette Dashfy's LOST LEGACY

Annette Dashfy’s LOST LEGACY

And Annette Dashofy’s, Lost Legacy

Also in my Kindle are other books by friends I intend to read, Shirley Hershey Showalter’s Blush, and my own eTreasures Publishing author, John Joseph Doody’s The Wonk Decelerator.

I enjoyed reading about Helen Cavanah, a strong woman in a historical fiction so much, that next I read, I Am Livia by Phyllis T. Smith. It is about Caesar Octavian’s wife and written like a memoir. What a terrific read! I loved that so much that I immediately started reading the follow up by author, Michelle Moran, Cleopatra’s Daughter.  This is promising to be as enjoyable.

I am relearning something I have always known, I love historical fiction!!

What about you? What do you love?

Rosie’s Magic Horse/ #PPBF

Hi Friends!

In our imagination we can do anything. We can climb big buildings, make millions, or become superman and fly. Or we can write for children. Russell Hoban did just that with his imagination. This book is a wonder of the imagination and reminded me of when I was a child and capable of these things.

Book cover_Rosie's Magic HOrse_dTitle: Rosie’s Magic Horse

Author/ Illustrator : Russell Hoban / Quentin Blake

Publishing info: 2012; Candlewick Press, all ages

Themes:  /adventure, affecting others, helping parents, imagination, dreams

First Three Sentences : There was an ice-pop stick with ice-cold sweetness all around it, white on the inside, pink on the outside. Then the sweetness was gone, and the stick fell to the ground. “The sweetness is gone,” said the stick. “No more sweetness.”

Summary From amazon site: “ Once its icy sweetness is gone, a discarded ice-pop stick is lonely until young Rosie comes by and lays it in a cigar box with others like it. But this stick wants to be something! Meanwhile, just before bed, Rosie sees her parents worrying over their bills. That night, wishes intertwine when Rosie dreams of a horse named Stickerino galloping out of the cigar box. “Where to?” he asks. “Anywhere with treasure!” says Rosie. A girl and a horse galloping over cities, jungles, and an icepop mountain leads up to a clever heist of a gold-filled pirate chest — and a happy ending at home — in this wildly imaginative adventure.

Resources:  here is a guide with correlations to the common core :

For more ideas and flannel board look on pinterest

Or read the story to your students without showing them the   illustrations and have them draw the pictures of what they imagine is going on in the story.

Why I love it : Russell Hoban has published more than forty children’s books and I can see why. He is just as imaginative as a child. Rosie’s Magic Horse which is  just a pop stick takes you on an adventure just like if you were a child thinking up this story. One idea leads to another. Quentin Blake’s illustrations are like eye candy to deliver the goods. This is one fantastic pair. From talking sticks to one’s that have big dreams, the help solve Rosie’s parents problems. How? I am not telling.
